Damn, that was a lot of typing.
My first con and all that (actually, first trip I've been on completely on my own. Yay for being a sheltered child.) I got bored in the evenings, so I wrote down a lot of stuff. It's less of a con report then a "hanging out with #forum-m" report, but maybe someone will find it interesting. Peruse carefully and you could win a free T-shirt! (Probably won't fit you, but it's the thought that counts, isn't it?)
It was a great experience... but I feel like I was trying to do two things, meet friends and attend a convention, and didn't really have time to do either up to snuff. I think my next con will be somewhere close to home and comparatively devoid of forumites, like fanime. Maybe by the next time I make it to Otakon, I'll be savvy enough to ignore the backdrop, without feeling like I'm missing out on all the things we didn't attend together.
Those are petty complaints, though. Thanks for coming, for hanging out and for being friends. Or something sappy like that. \o
Addendum: HOLY FUCKING SHIT PoFV NETPLAY VERSION IN DEVELOPMENT |

I was hoping I could post these more punctually in an internet cafe somewhere, but apparently the third-world country of Maryland doesn't have such things (or the Radisson's yellow pages were from prehistoric times; I didn't check the date.) Hopefully people still read backdated entries.

I lost a week's worth of work on a coloring contest, but I'm not *too* bitter because this shitty laptop can play Touhou games. They're getting dull though. |

| | Hum of my dad's computer | ] | 4/16/2005: Now with more lj-cut!
My operating system died. I tried to upgrade my kernel to fix a DVD burning problem so I could make a copy of something for a friend. The new kernel ate my filesystem. I quickly returned to the old one, but it continues spewing i/o errors while trying to access important stuff like /usr/bin, and fsck.reiser4 can't find the problem. Looks like I'll have to reinstall.
I wouldn't be so irritated if the filesystem had just decided to die during normal use. It's brand new technology, so that's practically expected. But no, I had to break the OS while trying to fix it.
I had to delete a whole lot of stuff to fit a backup into the 30GB external hard drive. (Normally I back up to multiple DVDs...) It's not external right now, because for some reason the USB bridge started going bonkers after about 1.5GB of data transfer, so I ended up ripping it out and hooking it up as a normal hard drive.
To top it off, this is Gentoo. A reinstall is a week-long process, and it would probably take a month to restore my system to the way it was.
I think I'll see if I can convince my dad to split the cost of an iBook.
But enough of that. Pics!

| | Yuki Kajiura - Fiction | ] | This isn't a real blog. It's an account I can use to post comments on other people's (mostly the IWC feed actually), and a place I can put some pictures of my room I'll be taking in a little while. I'd feel strange writing one when I only rarely read anyone else's, and I don't think my life is really of enough interest to merit weekly updates... if you think differently, e-mail me about it. |
